The story behind the sound.

Brett grew up in a small town embedded in rural, Northwest TN called Greenfield – 4 sq. miles, 1 red light, a Sonic, and an El Vallarta. Hunting, fishing, playing sports, and working at his family’s produce business are all Brett knew throughout his upbringing. When he wasn’t doing one, he was sure to be involved in one of the others. At the age of fifteen, Brett attended a youth conference in Southaven, MS, where his life was changed through a prayer. “Your will. Nothing else. Nothing more. Nothing less.” The pastor of the conference breathed only those words prior to his message, and then began… If you ask Brett what the pastor spoke on that session, he won’t be able to tell you. But, he can tell you that his prayer was not in line with the prayer of the pastor. This was the beginning of an internal battle against selfish ambition and pride that would shape Brett’s journey.

Throughout high school, with a dad who served as the volunteer choir director and a mom who offered her time in many capacities at the church, Brett had access to church keys on demand. He would occasionally make his way into his church’s sanctuary, pull out his guitar, and lead an empty room in worship. With only the sunlight beaming in through the stained glass windows, Brett would imagine a full (~200 capacity) Bethel Baptist Church sanctuary as he led songs like “Holy is the Lord”, “Blessed Be Your Name”, “All in All”, and “Undignified” from the greenish blue carpeted stage. At that time, for a small town kid, that was as big as he could dream. Little did he know, God had some other cool stuff in mind.

Brett went to Union University in Jackson, TN, to play baseball. Soon after he arrived, the prayer he had heard as a fifteen year old creeped in with conviction. He knew he still had some selfish ambition he was holding on to. Brett gave up baseball and for the first time in his life was able to go “all in” with his pursuits toward God’s calling on his life. Over the course of Brett’s college years, he got involved with a local church’s worship and student ministries where he served for 7 years. It was also in his college years where he met his beautiful wife, Megan.

Since college, Brett has had the opportunity to lead worship across the country, partnering with organizations such as FUGE and Student Life, along with a variety of different churches. Brett currently serves as a worship leader at The Journey Church in Lebanon, TN, where he, his wife (Megan), and son (Keaten) live. With a heart for the local church, the band Brett typically travels with is mainly comprised of folks from his TJC team. He loves developing relationships, encouraging worshipers of Jesus, and reminding them of what Christ has done on our behalf in hopes that we, the people of God, will respond in a worthy manner.
